Here are the most recent pictures of the fire from our house. There are actually 2 fires that are occuring in the forest behind our house. One is really close but is smaller than the other that is further away. It is hard to estimate how far away they are. When we left this morning for church we could the the further fire beginning. We just got back from church and the one that is closer to our house began. You could barely see it over the tree tops but it is growing very quickly. Yesterday the news said that the flames reached more than 100 feet and spread very qucikly because of the wind. It was really windy (25 mph) and caused the fire to destroy more than 400 acres by yesterday evening. We have not seen any helicopters today but we do hear the firetrucks coming. All residents are able to go back to their homes and the fire has been contained. The fire departments are worried because the forest contains peat moss which allows the fire to travel under the ground and pop up at different locations. The helicopters have shown up and are dumping water and other fire protectant over the area. It is crazy to watch from our back porch. We are going to make it through the fire The wind is dying down and now there is ash falling from the sky. The ash is very thick and the smoke is settling in. The ash is covering everything. It smells like a camp fire and actually makes me miss being outside under the stars drinking wine and making smores. No worries - Landon and I are fine and are opening up a bottle of wine and eating Costco pizza. Love you all!!!

In the 7 months that we have lived here in the wilderness of North Carolina, Landon and I have experienced some very crazy weather. And today was no exception. The last few days have been beautiful and it is finally beginning to look like spring. This morning the sun was out shining and the sky was blue and clear. When we left to complete our Saturday errands, we saw a fire just outside our house in the woods behind the golf course. We thought it was a controlled burn but we were wrong. The fire from Hoover Road - which our street is off When we got back from our weekly run at Costco, the fire was still going strong and the plume of smoke could be seen from the highway in Wilmington (30 minutes away). When we turned onto Hoover Road, our street was filled with police officers directing traffic. We learned that our neighbors had been evacuated from their homes because of the direction of the strong wind and that the fire had not been contained. Below the news art...
